Baby Ma Camp M. County Liberia
I first heard of this story from one of the owners of OneStar Network an internet TV station broadcasting from Liberia. The Reporter who did the interview is Lisa Darcy (on July 5th 2013).
In the interview, Mrs Rachel Grant explained that she and her husband have been running a make shift Day Care for approximately 260 Children who live in the Refugee Camp. Mrs. Grant said that she and her husband have lived in the Baby Ma Camp since 2009.
Ms Grant made a plea to the viewer if OneStar Network to bring help to the camp, so that she can continue to keep the children safe and provide them with education. The one room hut that the Day Care was in has broken down because the building was old and worn from the weather.
The Camp Manger is Mr. Henry Johnson. He estimates that there are over 6,000 people living in the camp and they only have one Bathroom (latrine) facility for the entire population.
The camp also does not have sufficient water to sustain the population. They have one hand pump and when the hand pump stops working, the community gets water from the local creek. According to Mr. Johnson, a recent out break of diarrhea lead to the death of several children and elderly people on the community.
Mr. Johnson also said that the camp has a clinic, but it closes at 4:00pm and when residents get sick during the night, there is no where to take them.
